چکیده

The suspensions in normal saline showed almost four log fall in 1 month of storage. However, subsequently there was no marked fall in the viability during an observation period of 12 months. Initial fall in viable count from 109 to 105 CFU/mL at the end of 1 month is possibly due to accumulation of lethal metabolites and/or depletion of nutrients.[4] However, the subsequent loss in viability in normal saline was minimal till 12 months. The survival of vibrios could be due to very low metabolic activity without autolysis in the suspending ß uid. The storage in domestic refrigerator is practical for any average microbiological laboratory in the economically developing countries that do not have freezers or lyophilizing equipment for preservation and the simple method will prove valuable for preservation of V. cholerae.

Biological false reactive VDRL test among the HIV-infected patients: A note on its prevalence

Presently, the screening of syphilis is dependent mainly on serological tests. In the sexually transmitted disease clinic, syphilis serology is a basic screening test. The results VDRL test among of 150 HIV (82 males, 68 females) infected, regardless to immune status (CD4+ count), were studied. It was found that in 2 cases, the VDRL was biologically false reactive (VDRL positive, TPHA negative)...

Biological false positive serological tests for syphilis in the Jamaican population.

A total of 19,067 sera were screened for biological false positive (BFP) reactivity by the Venereal Disease Research Laboratory (VDRL) test. Sera which were reactive in the VDRL test were confirmed by the fluorescent treponemal antibody absorption (FTA-ABS) test. BFP reactions were detected in 0.59% of the general population, 0.72% of pregnant women and 11.8% of patients with systemic lupus ery...
